irregular times arrow pathsIt is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Now We Will See What Experience Hillary Clinton Really Has

Filed under Election 2008 by jclifford at 9:05 am

As a presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton has claimed to have more experience than Barack Obama, though Barack Obama has actually spent more years as an elected official. On what basis could Hillary Clinton say that she’s more experienced than Barack Obama? Well, she’s older than Barack Obama, so she’s been alive for a longer time. Then there’s the fact that Hillary Clinton’s husband was President of the United States.

Hillary Clinton has been walking a wavering line in claiming her husband’s time as President of the United States as if it is experience of her own. On the one hand, Hillary Clinton doesn’t want to say that she should be elected President because her husband was President. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton wants to use the presidency of her husband to gain an aura of experience for herself.

Hillary Clinton’s claims of White House experience have so far been vague, and haven’t withstood scrutiny very well. For example, Senator Clinton claimed to be instrumental in peace negotiations in Ireland, but people who were actually there suggest that she did little but offer encouragement from the sidelines. The same sort of questions about Hillary Clinton’s claims about her involvement in Kosovo negotiations have arisen.

Today, maybe, we’ll get some answers. At least we’ll have more than Hillary Clinton’s memory and assertions. We’ll have Hillary Clinton’s schedule - or at least the parts of it that haven’t been censored (”redacted” is the word people like to use for censorship now).

The William J. Clinton presidential library promises that the schedule will be available online today… or maybe sometime soon after today. So far, there’s nothing on the Clinton library web site. The schedule, with some censored items, will be certainly released by the Clinton presidential library to the press today, however.

Hmm. That Clinton presidential library is a big, impressive building. Who gave money to build it? Foreign governments? Corporations? Ordinary Americans who just thought that Bill Clinton ought to have a nice big library to celebrate his presidency? The Clintons refuse to say.

I look forward to that disclosure. The more information that’s made public, the better.

Update: The schedules are now available online.

Here’s what The Guardian has to say, upon an initial survey of the documents: “An initial reading of some of the more than 11,000 pages of Clinton’s schedules from her days as first lady, released today by the National Archives and the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, shows that she was often far from the site of decision-making during some of the most pivotal events of Bill Clinton’s presidency.”

I’ll have a look for myself, I think, and a mighty long look it may be. The schedule for the year 2000 is taking five minutes to download. A lot of requests, or a detailed document. I’ll soon see.

  2. Paul,

What you’ve written here is spam. You’re copying and pasting it across the Internet. That’s easy to confirm with a quick keyword search.

You may hate Barack Obama, but I’d like you stop and think to consider whether this shrill message you’ve written will actually convince anyone.

You can’t even spell Jeremiah Wright’s name correctly, much less put a sentence together in a coherent manner.

Ordinarily, I’d delete a piece of cut-and-paste spam like this right away. In this case, I think it’s worth keeping here, as an indication of the desperately poor quality of thinking going on in the anti-Obama camp these days.

  3. I don’t see hate in this post, jClifford. The guy seems to be trying to say Obama has changed his story and that the media is not reporting it as they would if Hillary did the same thing. The quality of English is apparent, and he doesn’t say what his first language is, but you just dismiss his ideas out of hand because of the format without saying what it is about the thinking you don’t agree with.

Did Obama change his story? Here’s Obama’s earlier statement from his piece in the Huffington Post:

The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/barack-obama/on-my-faith-and-my-church_b_91623.html

It’s been pretty well established that Obama did not see the exact “God Damn America” speech of Rev, Wright that has been quoted–he was in Miami that day.

The other question of how Obama could not have known Rev. Wright’s viewpoints after being in the same church with him for twenty years is not so easy to dismiss.

  4. Some people are saying that the Huffington Post piece wasn’t really written by Obama and was just posted there under his name, so if you want to SEE Obama say about the same thing, as well as making that uncle comment, here is the Keith Olbermann interview

    Comment by Iroquois — 3/19/2008 @ 3:17 pm

  5. Obama didn’t claim that he was unaware of Wright’s attitudes. If you saw his recent speech you would know that he answered these questions directly. Only you didn’t actually listen to the speech - you were too busy counting which words he used how many times.

    Comment by AT — 3/19/2008 @ 4:07 pm

  6. So how would you explain the discrepancies between the speech, the Huffington Post piece, and the video with Keith Olbermann, AT?

That “pastor as an embarrassing uncle” remark is sort of odd too. You don’t choose your family. You do choose your church. How can he say Wright is like an embarrassing uncle, then claim if he had said anything offensive he would have been obligated to disagree with it? Oh, so he didn’t know, AND he did know, all at the same time.

  7. If you missed watching Rev. Wright, and he IS worth seeing for yourself, here is the link

    Comment by Iroquois — 3/19/2008 @ 5:00 pm

  8. I have no idea what discrepancies you are talking about. I’ve seen the speech, thank you.
What are you going to do with your life once your candidate has lost the nomination? Sulking and whining will be in order Im sure.

    Comment by AT — 3/20/2008 @ 9:19 am

  9. “my candidate”?

I don’t have a candidate, AT, and it’s rude of you to keep insisting that I do. But it’s pretty obvious everyone here is still drinking the Obama koolaid instead of using their brain cells. You notice they don’t say whether or not they’re getting paid by someone.

You’re in love with me, AT, aren’t you.

    Comment by Iroquois — 3/20/2008 @ 10:15 am

  10. almost missed the update, but speaking of “pivotal events” hee, hee
    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/20/clinton-in-white-house-during-monica-lewinsky-encounters/

–Nov. 17, 1995: Mrs. Clinton had no public schedule and was at the White House. That night, Lewinsky said she had a sexual encounter with the president while he was on the phone in the White House with a member of Congress.

Don’t you just hate those misplaced modifiers?

    Comment by Iroquois — 3/20/2008 @ 2:26 pm

  11. What is this - breaking news that Bill had an affair? I don’t get it.

It is painfully obvious that Clinton is your candidate. You can’t hide that any better than you can hide your prejudice against muslims and men.

As far as being in love with you is concerned - it may be a possiblity. I do love women who can offer a good argument. So you sorta meet the criteria there. I mean you can argue, I just don’t know how good you are at it - I have my doubts.

Also, are you hot? Something tells me you are a bit older than me - would I consider you a MILF? If so, maybe we should plan a rendezvous…

    Comment by AT — 3/21/2008 @ 9:37 am

  12. The puns weren’t that good to begin with, but they just get worse if they have to be explained. And no, AT, I don’t do lesbians–of any nationality. Your whole attitude towards sexuality is contemptuous, masochistic, and rather numbing.

I think the whole thing is a non-story. There has been a certain build-up to the release of the documents, but now they are out, no one can think of anything profound to say about them. It looks like a brutal schedule though, with your whole life ordered for you by other people, and no privacy. Hillary is welcome to it, I couldn’t live like that.

    Comment by Iroquois — 3/21/2008 @ 11:22 am

  13. What in the world are you talking about? Are we having the same conversation? Where did I mention lesbians? And what exactly is my attitude toward sexuality? Explain to me how I am masochistic. Im beginning to think you are insane. Either that or you don’t actually read the posts you respond to. You are the ultimate time waster.
