Ralph Nader has written an open note to Hillary Clinton:
Senator Clinton:
Just read where Senator Patrick Leahy is calling on you to drop out of the Presidential race.
Believe me.
I know something about this.
Here’s my advice:
Don’t listen to people when they tell you not to run anymore.
That’s just political bigotry.
Listen to your own inner citizen First Amendment voice.
This is America.
Just like every other citizen, you have a right to run.
Whenever you like.
For as long as you like.
It’s up to you, Hillary.
Just tell them:
It’s democracy.
Get used to it.
Yours truly,
Ralph Nader
Damn straight. Hey, while we’re on the subject, Ralph, you keep on running just as long as you like too. It’s up to voters, not party bosses, to decide the winner of an election. Democracy can be messy and ambiguous, and it’s time we all got used to it.
Oh please. As if anything is “above board” about American elections now. After FIXED electronic voting machines (statistically questionable results), outright disenfranchisement of whole blocks of voters for spurious “reasons” (like hanging chads), Nader’s media banishment from any of the debates last time around, not to mention the Supreme Court “deciding” the 2000 election, what is the common person going to think about modern cutthroat politics. “Why don’t they just have a duel, or a spelling bee decide it?” We can’t be so naive as to believe that we voters actually have any real say in our elections after the last two farces. Like any other third world puppet government our elections are fraught with rigging, fraud, vote stealing, vote buying, “fixing”, influence by big money corporate groups, media bias, complex and arcane “rules”, “super delegates” and pledged delegates, a mysterious electoral congress that can whisk away the popular vote if necessary, and at the end of it all – a government that doesn’t even work like it was designed!
Politics; while the planet is in crisis mode and the human race is devolving right before our eyes we pretend to think voting is going to solve our problems when we know the outcome based on the past – it just keeps getting worse. We’re so goddamn ignorant, greedy, self-centered, deluded and power-hungry that it’s a wonder we’re not perpetually at war. As long as we can keep deceiving ourselves that it’s okay for US as individuals then the rest of the world can sod off, we’re going to have serious problems correcting the problems we face. Meanwhile, corporate world is this dinosaur tearing up the planet and ruining it in the process while we all buy into the lifestyle of consumption by chasing an increasingly vanishing wealth (it’s constantly rising up to the top 1% as designed) and just have to put up with what’s left.
