Staten Island To Rally For Peace On Saturday

Are you in the New York City metropolitan area and just can’t wait for Sunday’s war tax resister’s workshop? Then hop a ride over to Staten Island tomorrow.

Saturday at 12:00 Noon, Peace Action of Staten Island, along with other Staten Island community organizations, will be holding an anti-war rally in a parking lot at 117 Wright Street.

There are 8.2 million people living in New York City. I don’t think that Staten Island could survive it if even half that number of people went to the protest tomorrow. The meeting hall of the War Resisters League probably couldn’t handle them either.

Sadly, there’s no risk of that many people showing up to either event. The majority of New York City residents support ending the American military occupation of Iraq, but most of the people in that majority haven’t actually done much to back up their anti-war opinions.

This much is certain: For 8.2 million people this weekend, there is no excuse for saying that there’s nothing they can do to end the disaster in Iraq. There are anti-war actions that have already been organized for people to take part in around New York City this weekend. All New Yorkers have to do is show up.
