Have You Coveted A Seatrade Certificate of Commendation?

I want to write something positive about this press release, but I’m mostly confused by it.

It’s from Sea Alarm, an organization which seems to do good work, but also seems dedicated to providing extremely wordy descriptions of its work. Instead of describing itself as an organization that helps animals caught in oil spills, for example, Sea Alarm describes itself as “an international organisation established to advance and coordinate professional responses to oiled wildlife contingencies.”

The wordiness overwhelmed me, as a sea bird might be overwhelmed by an oil slick, in the first paragraph of the press release:

“The Sea Alarm Foundation has been honoured with a coveted Seatrade Certificate of Commendation, in recognition of its significant achievements in the field of oiled wildlife preparedness and response. The small, Brussels-based NGO received the Certificate as one of two runners-up in the Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment category at the 20th Seatrade Ceremony Dinner, held at the historic Guildhall in London on 21 April 2008. The glittering event was graced by the presence of Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal who presented the main Awards in front of more than 350 distinguished guests.”

A coveted Seatrade Certificate of Commendation as a second runner-up in the “Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment category at the 20th Seatrade Ceremony Dinner”? Coveted?!?

Have you ever coveted a second runner-up certificate in the Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment category of the Seatrade Ceremony Dinner?

I’d also like to know who Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal is. Her title is royally repetitive.
