![]() | Voters Reject Ugly Attacks, Embrace Obama |
Hillary Clinton had long been the heavy favorite in Indiana, where the Democrats tend to lean toward the right, but in yesterday’s Indiana Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton managed to hold on to a slim edge over Barack Obama of only two percentage points. In North Carolina, Obama won a solid victory of 14 points.
Why did Barack Obama have such a strong night? Let’s look at what the corporate news media has been saying over and over for the last two weeks: They’ve been pushing the story about Barack Obama’s former retired reverend again, hour after hour, day after day - as if it was news.
Many talking heads said that Senator Obama was done for. That was a rather self-serving declaration, if you think about it. The idea was that TV shows can make or break Barack Obama, just by babbling on about Jeremiah Wright for months on end.
That theory of American politics was proved wrong last night. Voters ignored all the nasty attacks, and chose Obama. Barack Obama came out of yesterday’s Democratic primaries with a delegate lead 12 points larger than it had been the day before.
Barack Obama has now proven that he can take a punch and stay on his feet - and do so without descending into the mudslinging himself.
Obama summarized the significance of yesterday’s primary elections well when he said last night,
“Because of you, we have seen that it’s possible to overcome the politics of division and distraction; that it’s possible to overcome the same old negative attacks that are always about scoring points and never about solving our problems. We’ve seen that the American people aren’t looking for more spin or more gimmicks, but honest answers about the challenges we face. That’s what you’ve accomplished in this campaign, and that’s how we’ll change this country together.”
It feels good to see voters choose substance over slime, for once.
It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

Never count out underhanded, devious, back-room deal making to overcome a loss.
Let’s see how many “super delegates” Clinton can buy (and promise lucrative positions to) in the next few weeks and months. After all, when you’re out of money and you’ll do anything to win, ya get crooked and go to the opposition for help.
What a sleaze Hillary turned out to be, and her “Reagan democrats” are scum too. Go ahead Hillary, sell your soul and the election out from Obama. That will surely raise your chances of getting elected next time around, like we’ll forget the betrayal of the party for personal gain.
