Impeachment of George W. Bush is not going to happen, if only because there’s not much time left for the Bush Administration anyway. Still, you would think that, with over 70 percent of the American public disapproving of the job Bush has done as President, there could at least be a censure resolution to note the many crimes and abuses of the Bush White House.
Congressman Maurice Hinchey, of upstate New York, actually did introduce a censure resolution (H. RES. 625) against Bush and Vice President Cheney last August, but it’s been stuck in the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties since then. The Democratic leadership just hasn’t been able to get around to bringing Hinchey’s censure resolution to the floor of the House of Representatives. In fact, only 23 members of the House joined Hinchey in cosponsoring the resolution.
But, let’s be fair. The Democratic leadership has been able to get a lot of bills to the floor of the House of Representatives: Frank Sinatra Day, for example.
In April, Representative Jose Serrano, of downstate New York, introduced H. RES. 1144, a resolution to designate Frank Sinatra Day, in recognition of the “monumental figure in American popular culture”. That resolution did not get stuck in committee. It made it to the floor of the House of Representatives this week, thanks to the support of over twice the number of cosponsors as Hinchey’s censure resolution.
