McCain Lapses into Inaction on Sweatshops

S.367, the Decent Working Conditions and Fair Competition Act, prohibits the “import, export, and sale of goods made with sweatshop labor.” More specifically, S. 367 if passed would make it a violation of law to “import into the United States, or export from the United States, introduce into commerce, sell, trade, or advertise in commerce, offer to sell, or transport or distribute in commerce in the United States any sweatshop good.” A “sweatshop good” is defined as one that violates these core labor standards:

“(1) the right of association;
(2) the right to organize and bargain collectively;
(3) a prohibition on the use of any form of forced or compulsory labor;
(4) a minimum age for the employment of children; and
(5) acceptable conditions of work with respect to minimum wages, hours of work, and occupational safety and health.”

Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have declared their formal support for S. 367. John McCain hasn’t.

If you need another point upon which to how to vote in the presidential elections this fall, remember this: Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have a problem with American collusion in child and slave labor. Judging by his behavior, John McCain doesn’t.
