Now that Hillary Clinton is officially endorsing and dropping out of the Democratic race for President (oops, I mean suspending her campaign), the question becomes who will be Barack Obama’s companion in the race for the White House in 2008. You’d have to be blind to miss the way that Hillary Clinton’s campaign has been suggesting that she be made the Vice Presidential nominee, but there’s a problem – Hillary Clinton has managed to offend so many people, Democrat and Republican alike, that she could just as easily pull Obama down as help to lift him up.
So, who is like Hillary Clinton, but not Actually Hillary Clinton? How about Jennifer Granholm, the governor of Michigan? Well Granholm has been mentioned as a vice presidential choice in a couple of places. She has executive experience. She could solidify the Michigan vote, after the delegate debacle, and she has clear demographic similarities to Hillary Clinton that could bring the Democratic vote together.
There’s a small problem, though. Granholm was born in British Columbia. That’s in Canada. Constitutionally, she is not qualified to be President, and therefore could not be made Vice President.
So, who else shares the qualities of Jennifer Granholm, but was born within the borders of the United States? Look to Kansas, the home of Barack Obama’s mother. Look to Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
