A while ago, Dennis Kucinich brought articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney to the House of Representatives. They didn’t get very far, thanks to the refusal by House Democratic leadership, from Nancy Pelosi on down, to even consider any impeachment of Bush or Cheney, regardless of the merits.
Yesterday, Kucinich brought impeachment back to Congress. He made a formal announcement of his intention to introduce articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush.
I have placed a copy of the Kucinich articles of impeachment against Bush on Irregular Times, so that they are easy for you to find and read. Sorting through the Congressional Digest can be a pain.
My first impression was that the resolution is too long, and too long winded – there are 35 separate articles of impeachment in Kucinich’s resolution. Then, however, came the thought that George W. Bush’s crimes as President have been many.
Should articles of impeachment be brief and to the point, so that they send a clear message that is easy to comprehend, or should they be thorough? My guess is that Dennis Kucinich knows he has no chance of actually impeaching Bush, but wants to enter a document into the public record in which he can make the case that George W. Bush ought to have been impeached.
At this point, impeachment isn’t the best option. The punishment for conviction through conviction is removal from office, but Bush would be removed from office in a few months anyway. People who have supported the impeachment of George W. Bush now ought to reorganize their efforts, and push for a thorough investigation of Bush and his aides, with the aim of prosecution and imprisonment after they leave office.
Well said. I’ve been saying for months now that we should skip the farcical impeachment process, and simply slap the cuffs on his arse come Inauguration Day.
Heh — wouldn’t *that* be a sight. To see the new Chief Exec turn directly to a pair of U.S. Marshals, nod, and then stand calmly by as Dubya is dragged away…
…
…sorry. Kinda glazed over there, for a sec. I’m back now.
“It was an unidentified flying object, OK? It’s, like, it’s unidentified.” Are we talking about the same Dennis Kucinich? Yeah that would be funny except what law did he break again? Imprisonment? Right, that has to be the dumbest shit I have ever heard(Behind your post misquoting unemployment rates). Good thing we have solved all the problems in the world and can now focus on putting Bush on trial.
Earth to Joe, there are a number of laws that were broken by Bush and his minions. If that wasn’t the case, then why would Bush argue that a President can’t be held to the standard of law when our country is at war? (Convenient that he started the very war that he claims gives him such infinite power.) If he didn’t break any laws he would have had no need to make such a reaching case. Did you even read the entire article of impeachment? Something tells me you don’t have an attention span that large.
35 articles of impeachment, and they’re ALL wrong, Joe?
Why don’t you tell me which articles of impeachment from this resolution are wrong, Joe? You did read it, and not just completely dismiss it out of hand without informing yourself, right?
Kucinich wrote it… He believes he was abducted by aliens. If these are the kooks that you are elevating to be your leaders you”ll always be vastly disappointed in the results. Dennis is not even fringe left he is certifiable.
Good one Joe – if you don’t like the message, just attack the messenger. You’re looking smarter and smarter buddy.
No, actually—if someone is impeached for a crime, and removed from office, he can then be tried for that crime in a normal court. Given the severity of some of these crimes, Bush could even wind up in prison, or executed. It’s not likely, but the trial itself would be painful enough to make future tyrants think twice.
I would say the same about Anne Coulter as I am sure you would AT. Just because you like what he is saying doesn’t mean its grounded. Have you seen the inside of a spaceship too AT?
