I have the same experience reported by Jim: The National phone numbers for the Barack Obama campaign are flooded with calls of protest against Barack Obama’s declaration that he will vote for the FISA Amendments Act as a Senator and continue the unconstitutional spy program against American citizens if elected President.
Barack Obama taught Constitutional law. He ought to know better, and he ought to know that a flip flop on an issue as important as the preservation of the fourth amendment in the Bill of Rights does not fit into the definition of change we can believe in.
Here in New York State, many of the local office numbers are overwhelmed with protest calls against the FISA Amendments Act too. I called offices in several cities before I was able to get through to someone in a major upstate city. The person I talked to explained that he is a delegate to the national convention in Denver, and that he agrees that Barack Obama has made a major mistake in supporting the FISA Amendments Act.
Let’s hope more delegates put pressure on Barack Obama to change his vote back to defense of the fourth amendment – before it’s too late.
Keep those calls coming in to the state-level offices of the Barack Obama campaign – just go to Google, search for your state and Obama campaign headquarters.
Absolutely. Keep it up and do not let up. Not only Obama but all Senate Democrats must realize that they must no longer fear “being painted” as weak on terror for upholding the Constitution.
This is an argument we win. When almost 80% of Americans say we are on the wrong track, shredding the 4th Amendment is what they are talking about.
In contacting the Obama campaign, I asked Obama to make a major address on the Constitution in the way he did on race. This country needs a lecture on the State of the Constitution and We need it now.
Great idea, Joe. I think that’s right – Obama needs to admit the temptation to compromise the Constitution, and then explain why we should not give in to that temptation.
Right now, Obama is pandering with the politics of fear – exactly the opposite of what he promised us.
Showing his weaknesses before even getting to the national convention, Obama will lose support quickly if he doesn’t get back on the REAL CHANGE track and STICK TO IT. If this guy goes the way of the rest of the politicians we elected (check out Pelosi’s promises vs her record) by flip-flopping on important issues we may as well throw in the towel on trying to get our country back. As far as i’m concerned the campaign Obama (before this “cave-in”) was the only chance we have left to change things for the better. That hope is dwindling now.
Maybe the country will come together and vote Nader.
