In his statement on Friday, Barack Obama said he would do what he could as a United States Senator to remove the provision in the FISA Amendments Act that grants retroactive legal amnesty to telecommunications corporations that helped George W. Bush spy on the personal communications of millions of American citizens. Obama said that he would “work in the Senate to remove this provision so that we can seek full accountability for past offenses.”
Promises from Obama don’t seem to worth much these days. Debate began on the FISA Amendments Act in the Senate today. There was an important vote on cloture. Barack Obama wasn’t there. Obama did not “work in the Senate” to remove retroactive legal amnesty like he promised to do. Barack Obama didn’t show up to work at all.
Barack Obama was too busy giving speeches and gathering fundraising checks today to defend the Constitution. He also took the time to assemble a special news conference to announce that he believes people who rape children should be executed. But when it came time for him to fulfill his promise to work on the FISA Amendments Act, Barack Obama was nowhere to be seen. His promise was just talk.
Will Barack Obama show this same lazy attitude when it comes to his promise to “monitor” warrantless wiretapping spy programs against the American people when he becomes President?
What a through disappointment he has turned out to be. Barack Obama wraps up the nomination and then this garbage is what we get as a reward?
This is not change we can believe in. It’s not hope.
When it comes to keeping his promises to the American people, no Obama can’t.

I’d noticed Obama’s lazy all talk no action attitude before, such as in the case of blowing off a constituent seeking his help in saving the life of Shoaib Choudhury, but this latest FISA/telcom crap is too much, he’s complicit in yet more shredding of our Constitution. Screw this, I’ll vote third party.
