Good news from New Mexico – Senator Jeff Bingaman has decided to join the ranks of those voting in opposition to the FISA Amendments Act. The FISA Amendments Act seeks to preserve George W. Bush’s network of spies snooping on Americans’ private conversations for years to come, and effectively removes the FISA court from having any ability to stop illegal spying by the President.
It’s a piece of legislation that threatens more than just the right of Americans to be free from government spies. It threatens the Constitution itself, by dangerously shifting power away from the Judicial branch to the Executive.
Thank you to Senator Bingaman for defending the Constitution as the foundation of freedom in the United States. Let’s hope that other senators follow his example.
Help those senators make the right decision. Call your senators NOW – (202) 224-3121 – and tell them to vote NO on the FISA Amendments Act. The bill will be voted on tomorrow. Act now to defend the Constitution, before it’s too late!
i don’t know how much good it’ll do but i called Spector’s office and left word that i’d really like him to defend the Constitution on the FISA Amendment and vote NO. The pleasant young man said he’d deliver the message. On to Casey.
Arlen Specter is being a jello brain. Specter admits that the law warps the American Constitution and is a grave threat to our democratic government, but then says he’ll vote for it anyway, ’cause he’s afraid that the terrorists are gonna get him.
