Gasoline Falling So Why Do We Need Offshore Drilling?

Republicans are trying to stage a publicity event in the House of Representative by hanging around and shouting about how much big oil corporations need more offshore drilling rights because of high gasoline prices. However, the price of crude oil is actually going down, and so is the price of gasoline – it’s at an 11-week low.

So, why is it that the Republicans are still saying that we need offshore drilling?

I’ll give you a hint: It rhymes with brofits for boil bompanies.

Your an idiot… prices are falling because we are talking about drilling offshore. It’s called future supply

  2. F.G. Fitzer says:

Oh, okay! So then let’s talk about finding 600 trillion barrels of oil in your pants! That ought to send the price of gasoline down to a nickel per gallon!

  3. Mark says:

In June when Saudi Arabia announced that they would increase production, guess what happened to the price of oil. That’s right, the next day it hit a new record high. This summer, as consumers have decrease the amount of oil they are using, prices have dropped.

As an aside, there’s a story on CNN today about Stanley, ND, a town that is getting rich on newly found oil there. How many other locations around the country could be just like Stanley? How many leases on thousands of acres are the oil companies holding on to without exploring whether there’s oil underneath.

There are plenty of opportunities to increase domestic oil production without having to resort to offshore drilling.

We gotta get off oil as an energy source (and coal too) if we’re going to have any impact at all on global climate change that will creep up on us and then overwhelm the planet before long.
