The Tennessee congressional primary elections are taking place today, and in most cases, the Democratic contests are between rotten and more rotten. Tennessee Democrats are, for the most part, nasty, right wing Republican imitators. See Lincoln Davis as an example – he has earned a 71 out of 100 possible points on the Progressive Patriots right wing index. Someone like that ought to be a Republican, but Lincoln Davis is the Democratic incumbent in Tennessee’s 4th district.
In the 1st district, Michael Donihe is running as a Democrat, but he’s actually a libertarian who’s against progressive government programs, and was a prominent supporter of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul earlier this year.
One Tennessee Democrat who stands out from this disreputable crowd is Steve Cohen, the one-term incumbent for the 9th district, which includes Memphis. Steve Cohen is solidly in the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, with a progressive rating of 95 percent.
Cohen faces several opponents for the Democratic nomination, most prominently, Nikki Tinker. Tinker was one of Cohen’s rivals in 2006, and is now attacking Cohen because Cohen isn’t Christian, and won’t use his power to push children to engage in Christian prayer in public schools.
Tinker represents the worst of the Southern Democratic Party. Cohen represents the best. Watch tonight for the results of the primary elections from Tennessee, and see which vision wins out.
Polls close in just under an hour, and I can’t find a place to watch the returns. Do you know of one, jclifford?
Nope. Nothing on the Tennessee Democratic Party web site. I can’t see results at the http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/news/local-politics/ site either – a Memphis paper.
The Tennessee Department of State Elections Division – http://www.state.tn.us/sos/election/results.htm – has nothing either, not even under Elections Results.
That’s typical Tennessee for you.

Republican David Davis is OUT – because he backed offshore drilling!
