Offshore Oil Drilling Costs Tennessee Republican His Seat

Republicans in Congress might want to rethink their support for offshore drilling given what happened in yesterday’s primary in the first congressional district of Tennessee. Incumbent David Davis lost his seat. He was voted out as the Republican nominee because of his support for offshore oil drilling.

Keep in mind that these were Republican voters who were so angry with offshore drilling. Imagine how strong the opposition to offshore drilling among Democratic voters in Tennessee must be.

Wise up, congressional Republicans. Big oil corporations may send you nice fat checks, but corporations don’t vote. People do.

  1. Mael says:

My goodness. I sure hope Democrats believe this silliness. Davis didn’t lose because he supported offshore drilling. He lost because he was a cold impersonal and did almost nothing for his district. Also Roe only won by 500 votes out of 50,000 and was a big supporter of very popular ex Senator and Presidential candidate Fred Thompson. Believe what you will but don’t expect being anti-drilling to pay off at the polls.

  2. J. Clifford says:

Mael, Davis’s opponent campaigned precisely on Davis’s support for offshore drilling. The voters rewarded that.

Look at the facts, Mael, not the spin.
