Mother Davis takes her pulse as she prepares to write,
John McCain is a man in his seventies. I am friends with several men in their seventies, and so I don’t mean this as an insult, but the plain fact is that men in their seventies have a remarkable habit of dropping dead.
The chances of John McCain making it through a two-term presidency are not good. That makes John McCain’s choice of a vice presidential running mate especially important. If John McCain is elected President in 2008, it’s very likely that his running mate will become President.
That makes it particularly mind-boggling that McCain has chosen Sarah Palin, a person with absolutely no national political experience, to be his vice presidential running mate. Sarah Palin has only been the mayor of a very small town and governor, for just two years, of a state with a very small population.
Even more troubling than Sarah Palin’s lack of experience is her ideological extremism in support of removing the wall between church and state. Professor Emeritus of Law Howard Friedman has done an good initial job of calling attention to Palin’s radical views about imposing her Assemblies of God theology in the public sphere.
Within just a few hours, it has been discovered that, on religious grounds, Palin:
- supports teaching Creationism in public schools
- opposes stem cell research
- supports blocking access to family planning services for women
- opposes the right to die
- supports a constitutional amendment to deny Americans’ equality of marriage rights
- opposes the right of members of same sex marriages to visit their spouses in the hospital and obtain health benefits through their marriages
Sarah Palin’s church is the Juneau Christian Center. Her pastor is named Mike Rose. Those who are interested in the character of this inexperienced cypher who could easily become President of the United States with nothing more than a few months of experience as Vice President might want to do some checking into just what kind of fundamentalist ideology a President Palin would enforce from the Oval Office.
Hoping that John McCain’s blood pressure is as low as hers,
Mother Davis
And Barack Obama has experience?
BTW – read the Wikipedia article. She also complied with enforcing legislation that Gays should get civil union rights.
Once the Nazi, er, Republicans get to know her, i’m sure they’ll be pleased with how she’s a “hater” like them and is even anti woman’s right to choose!
It’s great…we now will have a female Reagan…how cool is that. Gotta love it. Oh, and this you’ll love too….a neighbor, staunch Hillary supporter who was not going to vote…has a McCain yard sign out this morning….yeap, good stuff indeed.
Yes Jon, Barack Obama does have national political experience. Sarah Palin does not. Sarah Palin complied with that legislation because it was her constitutional obligation to do so. She supports a constitutional amendment to deny equal rights on the basis of sexual orientation.
So, you support Creationism in public schools, Sam? Is there any crazy right wing scheme you DON’T support?
Obama has 143 days of “National Political Experience”…that’s it…I’ll take 2 years of running a state as a Governor than a 6 month Senator anyday.
And as for Creationism in public schools….she may support it…but doesn’t push it. She allows individual school districts to make that choice. Unlike the Godless that demand everybody adhere to their way of thinking…like it or not….or else they will break the school district financially with law suits.
Sam, Barack Obama has a hell of a lot more than 143 days of national political experience. He’s been a senator for a lot longer than six months.
Sam, on Creationism you really don’t get it. We godless don’t demand that everybody adhere to our way of thinking. We favor the separation of church and state so that the government’s power is not used to promote some religious beliefs over others – and that’s exactly what Sarah Palin supports. She wants to create a special place for her religious beliefs in public schools using taxpayers’ money, while denying an equal place for other religious beliefs. She certainly does push it.
Special places? Like prayer rooms for daily bows to Mecca…special foods in the Cafiteria? Or maybe just a moment of silent reflection at the begining of the day? And as for the “class on creationism”…it IS theroy that has it’s own mertis and can be used if the school boards want it. Your way, at this point in time in our understanding of the Universe, is not the only way.
And yes, only 143 days. He broke camp in the Senate and took off on the campaign trail. He has NOT been there to do the job he was elected to do. Just votes…no work or debates or negoitations with his folks back home….zip. Just because he “has been senator for longer” doesn’t mean he was doing the job….and YOU know that.
sarah palin is a very scary right wing fundamentalist with no regard for HUMANS (or animals for that matter – she gets a thrill from hunting them!)
The home church of Sarah Palin is the Wasilla Assemblies of God. In a few days, on September 7, they are going to hold a Master’s Commission meeting about “God’s plan for Alaska, the United States and the world”. What is that religious plan, and is Sarah Palin a part of it?
Scary. Creepy.
Does Sarah Palin speak in tongues?
Sarah Palin: Dominionist Stalking Horse

Thank God there are so many people in the USA that have a mind. Some of us were really stupid for a while but most have woken up! Now is the time to stand behind Barack Obama, pledge your support @www.Barack Obama.com , even if it’s just 5 dollars.
We WILL win this country back! I really want to say thanks to McCrazy, this was the best pick! Well, maybe for the 20% crazy MFer’s that still think W was a ahhhh….I can’t even type the words!
Thanks you crazy old man for this crazy lady! can’t wait for 1/20/2009 !! Go Barack!!
A strong Christian as VP is an exciting prospect. Maybe she will aggressively shake-up the “good-old-boys” club in Washington that has come to near total stagnation.
I’m really gonna enjoy the melt down you all will have when McCain takes it….THAT will be a hoot….
Every so-often, Irregulartimes is discovered by another neo-con wannabee such as SAM. perhaps he is a reincarnation of some of the nuts who have graced these pages over the last few years with their less-than-scholarly gibberish written under the guise of intellectual free thinking. The really astounding thing is, that the childish rantings and pointless ravings of this not-so-clever 5th grader always takes the same line.
Sam’s logic tends to suggest that those of us who think and reason are some kind of out-world automatons who dance to their owners commands. Who believe in things that will undoubtedly lead to moral destruction and social decay. I don’t know how old Sam is, but somehow he has no recollection of the History of the World up to this point; has never read the constitution nor studied any of the postworld war II doctrines. In two articles published within 24 hours, Sam has regailed us with terms such as pocketing and shitholes. Whereas such knowledge and experience might be acceptable in a fifth grade school yard, it hardly deserves the space in this column.
By the way Sam, 5th graders can only vote in grade-school elections.
Bush was a governor, Palin is a governor. Enough! Eight is Enough! Republicons like cons. She’s already being investigated, what happened to the republicans who used to have brains? Oh they joined the democratic party – wise choice. Peace and may God Bless America soon.

Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is a committed Christian… OH NO, SAY IT AINT SO!!!!
However….. Democrat PRESIDENTIAL candidate Barak Obama…..
* Obama’s 20 year pastor and “father figure” is an America hating “Black Liberation Theology” (read: communism) extremist NUTball. (Wright)
* Wright’s replacement is lauded by Obama and turns out to be just as big a NUTball as the former pastor.
* Obama’s longtime supporter, fellow board member and personal friend (“just another guy on the block” is a flat-out lie) is an extreme radical America hating unrepentant terrorist (literally). (Bill Ayres and his dingbat wife)
* Obama’s receives a sweetheart real estate deal from known crook and indicted swindler. (Tony Rezko)
* Obama’s close friend and mentor in Hawaii (“Frank” in Obama’s book) was an avowed communist, radical activist, and known pedophile. (Frank Marshall Davis)
Listen, Obama is just another political hack from the Chicago machine. Mark my words: Obama-mania has fallen about 4 months shy of being successful. His exposure began in June and is now picking up speed. Like it or not, McCain is going to win BIG… not quite as big as Reagan’s victories, but it will NOT be close. You can take THAT to the bank.
What are you trying to say, Brammy – that Christians are qualified for office, while the rest of us, the non-Christians, can’t be allowed to have equal access to power?
sarah Palins pastor does not preach GOD DAMM AMERICA .
The Obamas paster does just that amd all the congregation cheers.
Is that right.Do we want to have a president and first lady who associate with a pastor like that. I certainly do not.
No, Sarah Palin’s pastors preach GOD DAMN SCIENCE. They preach GOD DAMN democracy. They preach GOD DAMN anyone who doesn’t belong to their version of Christianity!
J. I’m sure you’ve visited Palin’s church and listened to her pastor to prove what you say, or are you making a hasty generalization.
The Christian conservatives such as Palin do not want to force any one to practice the christian religion, because the practice of religion doesn’t get anywhere. No matter how religious you are you can’t get to heaven, it is through faith in christ alone. No one can get around the fact that no matter what they teach in school it will have an agenda. I went to public school and i was forced to learn anti christian beliefs such as evolution, and if I decided not to than I would fail the class. would this be imposing anti God or atheistic beliefs on me.
It would be a science class, teaching the scientific theory that best matches observable reality. You have the right to subscribe to whatever delusions you want to subscribe to. You don’t have the right to have everybody around you pretend that your creationist delusions hold a candle to evolutionary biology. They don’t.
If you want to live in an environment in which you are guaranteed the right to have everyone around you agree with your factually-unhinged delusions, I suggest living in a Fun House of Mirrors. Everywhere you go, you’ll see people smiling and nodding.
Evolution cannot be proven as you say it is a theory, there is no dulution even evolution scientist would have to concieve that there is at lest the same amout of evidence for creationism as there is for evolution.
I’m sorry delusions.
Nooooo, they wouldn’t. Evolutionary biology is the theory of the origin and change in species that is best supported by empirical observation.
So am i right in a suming that you have seen a monkey turn into a man?
The fact of the matter is that the evolutionary theory as you have call it and as it is so call “theory” is not proven by science. Scientist have tested the theory through experimentation, and as a result they have only been able to come up with more question and no answers. In public school it was made known that evolution is just a theory.
Jon, that’s not the fact of the matter. That’s the assertion of your Creationist propaganda.
The proof of biological evolution has been accumulating steadily for well over a hundred years.
The evidence against biological evolution has been at the same time… not accumulating at all.
Just a theory?
No, you misunderstand what a theory is. A substantiated theory is the closest science can get to reality. Creationism isn’t anywhere close to that. It’s an unsubstantiated assertion.
I’m going by the Webster Dictionary on the meaning of theory. Where is the evidence that what I’m saying is just assertion. There is evidence in which creationism bases it belief it is not just blind faith, and if you would like i will get it to you tomorrow if posible.
This will be my last comment for tonight. Although we may disagree on this topic, I’m very greatful we have this right to make our own choices. I have great respect for you two as people, and think you for having this debate with me.
Sincerely, Jon
Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin’s church is promoting a conference that promises to convert Blacks into White people through the power of prayer.
“You’ll be encouraged by the power of God’s love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by race. God started the Negro race when he turned Ham into a black man and if he could change race then, he can do it now.” according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years. Palin’s conservative Christian views have energized that part of the Republican Party electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain’s candidacy before he named her as his vice-presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes marriage between blacks and whites. Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the “Love Won Out” Conference in Anchorage, about 48 kilometres from Wasilla. Palin, campaigning with McCain in the Midwest on Friday, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called “pray away the race” movement. Larry
Kroon, senior pastor at Palin’s church, was not available to discuss the matter on Friday, said a church worker who declined to give her name.
Black activists in Alaska said Palin has not worked actively against their interests, but early in her administration she supported a bill to overrule a court decision to block state benefits for the partners of mixed-race marriages of public employees. At the time, less than one-half of 1% of state employees had applied for the benefits, which were ordered by a 2005 ruling by the Alaska Supreme Court. Palin reversed her position and vetoed the bill after the state attorney general said it was unconstitutional. But her reluctant support didn’t win fans among Alaska’s black population, said Scott Turner, a black activist in Anchorage. “Less than 1% of state employees would even apply for benefits, so why make a big deal out of such a small number?” he said. “I think black Republicans are going to run away” if Palin supports efforts like the prayers to convert blacks to whites, said Wayne Besen, founder of the New York-based Truth Wins Out, a black rights
advocacy group. Besen called on Palin to publicly express her views now that she’s a vice-presidential nominee.
“People are looking at Sarah Palin as someone who might feasibly be in the White House,” he said.
I ‘ m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight…. .
If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”
However, grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you’re a quintessential American story.
If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic “Muslim” (who, by the way, is a Christian).
However, name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you’re a “maverick”.
Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
However, attend 5 different small colleges before graduating with just an undergraduate degree in Journalism, you’re well grounded and highly educated.
If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law Professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs Committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.
However, if your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade of life.
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.
However, if you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a true Christian.
If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
However, if, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only (and teaching only abstinence) with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant while under your direct supervision, you are very responsible.
If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America ‘s.
However, if your husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA , your family is extremely admirable.
Oh okay, I get it now
Wow! You LWNJ’s can really blow some smoke! But, just like your President, it’s all “blow” and no”go”. You wrote a big, long paragraph of nothing, but glittering generalities about BO, and a shit-load of biased, prejudiced, conflagrant slurs about Sarah Palin. I’m not saying you have to like her, but get your head at least half-way out of your ass!
Lawn-Waterers in New Jersey?
Yeah, and if you get a special supernatural ceremony with a man who hunts witches that gives you God’s dispensation to become Governor of Alaska, you’re “one of us”.
Suuure.
“And as for the “class on creationism”…it IS theroy that has it’s own mertis and can be used if the school boards want it.”
The school boards can use it if they want to be sued. Religious beliefs cannot be taught in public schools. You can pool your own money together and teach Hare Khrisna for all I care but you can’t teach the bible in public school.
and, no, you can’t have your tax money back. public schools help the entire country and need to be funded. If you want to spend extra money teaching your kids to be ignorant that’s your business.
“Your way, at this point in time in our understanding of the Universe, is not the only way.”
it is the only rational scientific way that fits the facts. There are many irrational, unscientific ways that don’t fit the facts. Guess what, it has nothing to do with “at this point in time in our understanding of the Universe” because naive gullible know-nothings will always be with us….
