I can't help but suspect that whoever is managing the Wasilla AoG website removed video and audio of certain sermons to protect the church from legal trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if someone is going through WAoG sermons looking for instances of Ed Kalnins pimping Republican candidates. I also wouldn't be suprised if video and audio pulled from the WAoG website suddenly reappears soon... with edits, of course.

One thing is for certain... I pity anyone who has to sit through hours of mind-numbing sermons by Ed Kalnins.

The law actually states that you cannot advocate for a candidate. Thomas Muthee, at the beginning, the middle and the end of the sermon, advocates for the candidate.

One point on the legality/tax exempt issue. If you listen to when he's asking people to pray for Sarah at the beginning of the clip (one minute in), he never says they should vote for her, he say come the day of voting, we should 'be there' that could be interpreted as just encouraging people to vote. While you cite the law and it makes it sound like you can't advocate any support for a candidate. when it comes down to actually enforcing the law, churches tend to get away with anything that isn't directly advocating VOTING for a specific candidate.

As to the witchcraft thing, I had thought performing an exorcism in College had been the deal-killer for Bobby Jindal getting the VP nod, I guess not.

Two FYIs:
- audio and text of the Wasilla Bible Church sermons from 2007 & 2008 are available online http://www.wasillabible.org/sermons.htm

- to Tim of skynews blog, the blog text doesn't show up in FireFox for me, but works fine in Internet Explorer.

The Obama campaign has nothing to gain by drawing attention to the Muthee scandal but it should take comfort in the fact that the Muthee scandal reduces the possibility that the McCain campaign will try to bring back the Wright scandal.

While it crushes me, I can see why Obama doesn't want to out it himself. I'm sure McCain would just say it's all lies they made up to attack Palin's good name anyway.

And, yes, the political climate is definitely quite delicate now, especially with the economy in the toilet. But somebody in the media has to finally have the balls to get this out to the mainstream.

Besides, shouldn't a "pitbull with lipstick" be able to handle it? She's tough, right? Will she just explain it away again as a paraphrase of Lincoln like she did with her comments about war as "a task from God?" Or perhaps it was Churchill she was recalling during the prayers instead.

I'm not giving up though. I can't. I almost have trouble sleeping at night thinking about this. Until somebody finally gets a pair and decides to release this widespread I'm going to continue contacting major news medias and newspapers about this every day. This absolutely cannot be swept under the rug.
