Jim Wilson of the New York Times captured these posters on film in today’s article on the last-minute influx of money from the Catholic and Mormon churches to prevail in Proposition 8′s effort to preserve discrimination and squelch equal protection under the law for gay and lesbian couples. The article shows that while the Catholic and Mormon churches were actively and directly involved in the effort to get Prop 8 passed, they just as actively tried to hide that involvement. A quote from the church campaign documents:
No work will take place at the church, including no meeting there to hand out precinct walking assignments so as to not even give the appearance of politicking at the church.
The above posters from the Proposition 8 campaign show just how far into deceit these supposedly “moral” religious organizations were willing to descend in order to gain dominance over others’ lives. By making same-sex marriage illegal, California’s Prop 8 aided “Religious Freedom” only to the extent that these religions felt “free” to shove their parochial standards onto absolutely everybody. Proposition 8 institutes more government, not “Less Government,” by using the power of government to deny marriage to Californian couples. And Prop 8 had absolutely nothing to do with “Free Speech” whatsoever. In order to gain religious victory in politics, the Catholic Church lied to Californians. The Mormon Church lied to Californians. Some moral values.
The only response I can think of to such bold-faced bullshit is mockery. Here’s the official Proposition 8 logo:

And here are the organization’s deceptive words (“Protect Marriage,” my ass. Prop 8 actively destroyed marriages) erased:

Go ahead, take that graphic. Fill it with your mockery that suits your frame of mind. Here’s my offering:

That one marked “Prop 8 = Religious Freedom” really burns me up. Where do these people get the idea that their freedom of religion extends to denying the freedoms of others to be married to those they love?
Churches are already free to marry or not to marry any couple they choose. To say legal gay marriage is a denial of religion freedom is a study in delusions of persecution.
Thanks for the redoo graphic. I made my own Toondoo with it.

How about “douchebags fear freedom”
Does anyone else see four bare boobs in this logo?
Barry, I’m shocked at the implications of your comment.
Are you suggesting that the Catholic and Mormon churches would attempt to appeal to “breast men” with their graphic design? Perhaps attempting to provoke a “family/mother” sense in viewers, a subliminal message?
Disgusting.
Oh, wait. They’re the Catholic Pagan Mary-Worship Cult and the Mormon Cult. So, you may be right.
Still disgusting.
