Bad News From the Oceans

There’s plenty of bad news from the oceans tonight. A few highlights:

  • Hundreds of chemical weapons dumped after World War II have been found in Hawaiian waters. They may be leaking.
  • A cargo ship has busted its hull off the coast of Australia, and is leaking tons of crude oil.
  • Yet another study on ocean acidification to be published in Geophysical Research Letters notes that, if human civilization keeps on dumping 300 tons of carbon dioxide into oceans every second, coral reefs will eventually dissolve.

    Happy days. Surf’s up.
