Maine House Takes up Same-Sex Marriage Bill Today

Voting begins today in the Maine House on same-sex marriage bill LD 1020 after strong support in public hearings and approval by the Maine Senate. Look for the bill to pass, if not today then this week: support is strong among Maine Democrats, who have a majority in the legislative body. Representatives of the Catholic Church in Maine are already making noises about trying to repeal this expansion of liberty by referendum, both in private conversation and by swamping the airwaves with TV advertisements against marriage equality.
