Reverend Anthony L. Bennett, of the Mount Aery Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut worships a hungry god. And what is Reverend Bennett’s god hungry for? Politicians, apparently.
Yesterday morning, Bennett got up in front of the U.S. House of Representatives and made the following invocation:
“I lift the Members and staff of this, the United States House of Representatives. I pray Your wisdom and guidance will consume them so that they understand the individuals, families and, yes, even the nations that will be impacted by their decisions today. So teach them and all of us to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God. In the name of Jesus, I pray.”
If God is going to consume members of Congress, will he cook them first, or just serve them raw, with a nice ranch dressing for dip?
Seriously, though – why does the U.S. House of Representatives have to put up with religious leaders praying for the religious conversion of Congress every morning? Does anyone really think that this makes a difference?
There are prayers every morning and every evening, to open and close the business of Congress. Typically, these prayers invoke the power of God to control the actions of Congress, to make them in accordance with religious law – almost always Christian ones.

No, NOT different standards. Tons, literally thousands of tons of scientifically verifiable evidence for biological evolution through natural selection. None, absolutely none, for your god.
Also, your religion makes different claims. Your religion doesn’t claim that prayers will be answered in a geological time span. Your religion doesn’t even know what a geological time span is.
Good point, I forgot that your religion does. Nothing was floating around until nothing got a wild hair and then BANG nothing turned into something and the gradually over 9 Billion years that nothing that turned into something randomly poped out a single cell organism and BLAMO 6 million years later we get people. Yea, um… I dont think there is tons of scientifically verifiable evidence for this claim. In fact, there is nothing but a few hunches…

You are conflating string theory (physics) and natural selection (biology). String theory is extremely controversial, and many physicists say it’s like a religion. Natural selection isn’t controversial, and only a very small number of religiously-motivated biologists who work at Christian universities say it’s like a religion.
Who knows what “God’s Will” is? Right, by definition NO ONE. So why should we care about it when Congress won’t even do OUR will? THAT we should care about!
