In Malaysia, a group of about 200 Muslims has engaged in a prayer and protest against a plan to construct a Hindu temple in their neighborhood. As part of the protest, the group carried the severed head of a cow as they marched through the streets. The cow is a sacred animal in Hinduism.

“Have we lost our moderation, which we are so proud of?… Let’s use our head before we speak, write or protest,” wrote the editor of the Malaysian newspaper The Star in reaction to the anti-Hindu protest. How could moderation be preserved? The editor suggested that the protesters all be arrested and charged with sedition.
