I was absolutely shocked to hear this afternoon that Gourmet, the world’s longest-running magazine about food, is closing. It seems that they just couldn’t in the black, what with advertising revenues down. It was a great magazine, so they say, I mean, I had never read it myself, but the covers looked good.
Hm. Maybe the whole idea of advertising as an income model is passe. We here at Irregular Times have never used advertising as a means of income. We’ve found other means.
So, now that Gourmet has closed down, maybe we should take it over. I suppose the title itself would be too pricey for us to afford, but we could use something similar, perhaps.
How about Gourmetish? It would appeal to a wider reading audience: Those people who aren’t quite gourmets, but are leaning in that direction, and want to create the impression that they think a lot about food.
