What’s going on with the appearance of Irregular Times today?
Over the last few weeks, our web site has grown slower and less consistent in its appearance, starting to flicker. This morning, Irregular Times blinked out.
We’ve been using the WordPress theme Atahualpa, and at first it worked just fine, but as time went on, the software began using too much memory.
More is definitely less, when it leads to system crashes. So, we’re going to be crafting a new design that’s simpler, but offers the essential structure that’s necessary for Irregular Times. The most necessary thing when it comes to Irregular Times is content: Our articles, and our readers’ comments. Sweet little geegaws in the margins just don’t matter as much.
Take note, WordPress theme designers: If ever-escalating widget, plugin and theme complexity is not matched by the server power most web sites have available to them, there isn’t much point to it all.
We’re irregular, not sleek. We believe that ideas matter more than icons. As our appearance adapts to become thinner, we’ll keep on delivering the kind of thickness that matters.
