U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, in a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources hearing on environmental stewardship policies related to offshore energy production that ended just a few minutes ago, gave an angry response when she was confronted by the facts of a recent immense oil spill from an offshore drilling platform in the Timor Sea, between Australia and Indonesia. That oil spill continued for two and half months before drilling companies were finally able to plug the leak, including a blaze on the drilling platform in which flames rose hundreds of feet and a thick cloud of toxic smoke blocked out the sun for 80 miles.
Senator Landrieu’s outraged response was that the Timor Sea disaster wasn’t worth worrying about, because, while that calamity was going on, other offshore drilling platforms were not burning and were not leaking oil.
“The risks associated with offshore oil and gas drilling are far outweighed by the benefits,” Senator Landrieu said. Benefits of offshore drilling? What benefits was Landrieu talking about?
Perhaps she meant to refer to the $357,050 that she has taken in gifts from the oil and gas industry.
Would $357,050 of benefits help you to stop worrying about exploding offshore oil rigs?
She doesn’t care about anything but her own pocketbook! She is my senator- at least until the next election- but I will actively campaign against her! She just sold us out on the Reid Health Care bill- thinking by getting $100 million for medicaid subsidies for the state- that we would forgive her. NEVER! What she did is unforgivable- and I think she and Reid should be investigated: he BOUGHT her vote!!
Isn’t that illegal?! If you guys want to start an investigation; the people of Louisiana would support you! What a sell out!
