In the abstract, everyone with a basic education understands that the night is due to the rotation of our planet so that the side of the Earth that we’re on enters into shadow. For a concrete vision of this dynamic at work, however, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration provides us with a beautiful photograph of our planet turning from day into night.

Will it still be this beautiful and awe-inspiring when there are no humans left on the planet?
