What Do You Call A Flexible Deadline?

Democratic leaders in Congress say that they’re willing to go along with President Obama’s plan to expand the fighting in Afghanistan because the White House pledged to create a deadline of July 2011 to begin to withdraw soldiers from Afghanistan. Note that, even if this deadline were honored, we could see the same number of American soldiers as are in Afghanistan now at the beginning of 2012. The withdrawal could just be a reduction back to current levels, with a military occupation going on for long into the future.

Besides that, the Obama Administration got support from congressional Republicans by promising that the “deadline” of July 2011 would be flexible. Flexible? How can a deadline be flexible?

Obama’s promise to begin a reduction of troop levels in July 2011 isn’t a deadline at all. It’s more like a comaline. This Afghanistan policy is brain dead, that’s for sure.

i just finished e-mailing Harry Reid on his “petition for a flexible timeline for withdrawal of troops” calling it (in so many words) BULLSHIT. All that does is extend the war that we can’t afford, don’t want, and voted for Obama to get us OUT of. Not that it will do any good, but i just gotta vent sometimes (like all during the goddamn Bush administration).

Code Pink supports the Afghanistan effort now.

No, no they don’t. They simply don’t. Go to codepinkalert.org, the web page of CodePink, and tell me what it says there. It’s not what you claim it is.

Every month or so you come on here and make this claim, and every month I point out CodePink’s own statements and actions that show your claim is clearly false.

Why are you, yet again, repeating this claim that is so easily shown to be untrue with the most cursory of checks? What’s your motivation for doing this?
