Kucinich Moves To Force End To Afghanistan War

Among all the Democrats in Congress, Dennis Kucinich is showing the least fear in confronting the unprogressive policies of President Barack Obama. When Obama announced his plans to escalate the fighting in Afghanistan by sending more than 30,000 additional American soldiers there, many congressional progressives complained.

Congressman Kucinich is doing more than just complaining, however. He is taking action to reassert congressional power to overrule the President’s plans for prolonged war, preparing to introduce resolutions that would start a withdrawal, rather than an escalation.

Kucinich announced,

“Today, I will begin circulating two privileged resolutions which will trigger debate and votes on a timely withdrawal of U.S troops from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States makes it Congress’ responsibility to determine whether or not we go to war or stay at war. Consistent with Article 1, Section 8, the privileged resolutions will invoke the War Powers Act of 1973. I ask for your support of these resolutions, which will be introduced in the House in January.”

Will Kucinich challenge Barack Obama again, in the 2012 presidential election – perhaps with the Green Party?

These third party bids are dumb in my opinion at least until AFTER the Democratic and Republican primaries.

Ron Paul got about 10% in Iowa and NH, and he was polling better than that at one point. Pat Buchanan won NH, and narrowly lost Iowa by a percent or two. Had that changed we could have gotten a much more radical president than the republicans. So I generally believe in competing in the primary even if you’re likely to loses.

As honorable as Congressman Kucinich’s intentions are, I remained convinced America and the world are lucky President Obama is in office.

Please consider President Obama’s speech at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony.

    • Wow. The speech in which Obama reasserted that war is the answer? Yeah, that changed everything for me. Now, when I burp, flowers spring from the ground all around me. Money is falling from the sky, and little children break into song and dance wherever I go.

Amazing what Obama can do with a speech, isn’t it?

if dennis has more than a handful of supporters for his resolutions in congress i will be impressed. it’s so easy to say peace is the answer, it’s much harder to convince the bad guys that thrive on war.
war is peace.war is peace.war is peace.war is peace!
see, it’s gets easier with repatition.
