Irregular Times: News Unfit to Print Logo

It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time of barricaded roads and new paths. Maps fade and direction is lost as we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we pass, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Gone are the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Against the Blue Dog Democrat Howling

Blue Dog Democrats make me shake my head and wonder. Don’t they know that the reason that the Democrats won control of the White House, and tightened control over both houses of Congress, is that they promised progressive change?

Apparently not. Those Blue Dogs just keep on voting with the Republicans, helping the GOP block the very legislation, like health care reform and a bill to confront climate change, that brought the Democrats electoral success in 2008.

It’s no wonder that Blue Dog Coalition members like Bart Gordon and John Tanner are having to drop out of their re-election campaigns. They can’t convince Democrats to donate to their campaigns any more, because they’ve been running with the Republicans for so long.

Yet, along comes U.S. Representative Betsy Markey this week, announcing that she’s joining the Blue Dog Coalition. Her political perception is so out of focus that she doesn’t realize she’s jumping onto a sinking ship.

It’s time for progressives to howl against the Blue Dogs.

    The maw of Big Government

A new CNN poll finds that more than 80% of Americans are satisfied with the quality of their health care.

And even after all the media-hyped whining about capitalism, costs and an expectation that the government should make everything “free,” the poll still found 52% satisfied with the cost of health care.

But that won’t stop President Barack Obama, his fellow socialists on Capitol Hill, and their allies in the “mainstream” media from fanning the flames for socialized health care.

Massive government regulation in the health care industry has brought on increases in health care costs in order to comply with these regulations.

The government is already responsible for 50% or more of the health care spending in the United States through programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP and more. The federal government is notoriously lenient when it comes to paying for expenditures, so costs of treatments get inflated, and many times tests and treatments are prescribed simply because the health care industry knows the government will cough up the taxpayer’s money to cover it.
