This autumn, I’ve been following oil spills taking place at sea as the result of offshore drilling, especially the huge oil spill in the Timor Sea that continued for over 70 days. Landlocked communities are not immune from oil spills, however.
Yesterday, it was discovered that approximately 110,000 gallons of diesel had spilled out of a pipeline operated by ConocoPhillips. The spill took place just outside of the city of Billings, near a collection of industrial facilities and a heavily-traveled highway, Interstate 90. If the diesel had caught fire before being discovered, the results could have been cataclysmic.
If there’s a spill of wind energy and solar power, on the other hand, well, there’s a breeze on a sunny day.
