Mexico City Joins D.C. as a Gay Marriage Capital

Mexico City’s legislature voted today to legalize same sex marriage. Mexico City also will now allow adoption by same sex couples. The vote margins were strong: 39 to 20 for marriage equality and 31 to 24 legalizing adoptions by homosexual couples.

If Mexico City can do it, why can’t New York?

Isn’t it great when some people have to vote on whether other people have rights? i thought all that came under the “pursuit of happiness” clause, but then i remembered – we don’t use the Constitution anymore!

    • Rowan says:

Actually, Tom, the phrase “pursuit of happiness” is nowhere in the Constitution. You don’t have a legal right to be happy, or to pursue happiness.

Marriage equality is protected under the “equal protection” clause in the Constitution.
