2009 Arctic Sea Ice Levels Continue to Flirt with Record Lows

The National Snow and Ice Data Center provides daily updates of the extent of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean. The graph below shows data for the last four months with two reference lines: the 1979-2000 average for any given day, and data for the record low year of 2007-2008. As you can see, at all points the Arctic sea ice extent has been below the 1979-2000 average, and over the last two months its levels have flirted with record low levels.
