Rand Paul Ignores Law In The Name Of Defending the Law

Senate candidate Rand Paul is a chip off the old block, playing the same kind of cynical games with American history as his father, Ron Paul, did as a presidential candidate. Rand Paul cites American history and law in order to argue that the sovereignty of the United States is under attack from international organizations. Paul writes,

“The Founding Fathers warned us that foreign alliances sacrifice our independence as a nation. In Thomas Jefferson’s First Inaugural Address, he asserted that America should have “peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations — entangling alliances with none.” Yet today, America is often subservient to foreign bodies such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, World Trade Organization (WTO), and the United Nations (UN).

We are a nation of laws. Our allegiance to foreign institutions sacrifices our autonomy as a nation by transferring our legal authority to unelected and unaccountable leaders. Our fiscal, trade, and monetary policy should be in the hands and best interest of We the People. In 1776, our Founding Fathers declared the right of all Americans to direct legal representation. Let’s not give up that right to those who don’t share the same respect for our history and our freedoms.”

Yes, the USA is a nation of laws, and the highest law of the land is the Constitution. The second paragraph of the second section of the second of the Constitution of the United States clearly grants the President and Congress the authority to create international structures through treaties, saying that the President “shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur”.

People who know the Constitution realize that it isn’t a violation of American sovereignty when the United States enters international agreements – it’s a perfectly normal activity that’s enacted through our system of representative democracy. Thomas Jefferson may have much made a quip against excessive reliance on treaties, but the historical record is clear that this opinion was not representative of the attitude of the “Founding Fathers” as a whole. After all, the Constitution written by our nation’s founding politicians, which Thomas Jefferson himself agreed to, establishes international agreements as a legitimate exercise of both the Executive and Legislative branches of government.

If Rand Paul won’t even bother to familiarize himself with the Constitution, why should voters in Kentucky trust him to represent them in the U.S. Senate?

Well, we USED to be a nation of laws, but now our president by-passes the Constitution with little “signing statements” (unmentioned in that document), the legislative branch works for the corporate sector almost exclusively, and the powerful and wealthy (and some “religious” people with clout – ie. huge congregations of voters) have influence far beyond those of ordinary citizens (and in many cases there are a second set of superceding “laws” that trump the ones on the books for this group).

Congress is supposed to ratify all treaties too, which is not always done.

IT is good to see someone else can see through all of Rands dribble. I think he makes this stuff up as he goes along. Oh, NO he gets it from his dad. Libertarians want nothing to do with culture wars, think drugs and pornography should be legal, favor an isolationist foreign policy and generally believe in shrinking the government to about the size of a gnat.Opps, Rand portrays himself now as a conservative Republican while he is pandering for our votes here in Kentucky. Does that about cover it ? Great post I might!

Good grief.. and Rand Paul wants to be the US Senator from Kentucky? How ridiculous is that?? Seems Rand Paul ignores a lot of laws… like accepting money from Saudi Arabia for his campaign like obama did… what a mess..

Kentucky… your only real conservative candidate is Bill Johnson… Check him out if you haven’t already.. http://www.kentuckybill.com

” Folks, we’re in dire straits. The country is systematically being destroyed by a tyrannical governing body. We need to focus on sending people to Washington that are going to infuse new blood and throw out the old guard. Be conscientious of your choices because you are going to have that person serving for 6 years. That’s along time to suffer a mistake. Think Obama! I no longer trust the established politician or political machinery. All serve and cater to the special interest groups. Just look at their fundraising. Millions to win an election. You can have that BS. I’ll take the proven conservative in this race, Bill Johnson. He’s the epitome of conservatism. Do what I did…take the time and study each candidate. Make the right choice…your freedom and liberty will depend on it. “

Have you heard that Rand Paul will be debating at U of L? Grayson refused the invitation. Johnson wasn’t invited.
It’ll be Rand Paul vs Rand Paul. He’ll be debating both of his positions on each topic of Gitmo, illegal immigration, and abortion.

Rand Paul will be debating himself?? What a waste of fence-straddling; maybe U of L will supply a full length mirror for him. Grayson refused? nuff said. Johnson not invited? Looks like qualifications and integrity were completely ignored; what a breath of fresh air Mr. Johnson is!

Bill Johnson is getting my vote! Paul supports releasing terrorist back to Yemen and other places that want to come to this country and cause harm, I think not!! Johnson has strong military experience and will know what is best when it comes to national security. He is experienced in energy which is an issue facing all of us today, I agree that we should drill now! Bill Johnson http://www.kentuckybill.com/. Check him out, he is the one true conservatives are betting on!
