One of Barack Obama’s predecessors, James Madison, once declared, “Each generation should be made to bear the burden of its own wars, instead of carrying them on, at the expense of other generations. “
President Obama has declared that he will amplify the scale of the war in Afghanistan, which has been going on now for eight and a half years, and certainly will not end before it is over ten years old. Obama has not, however, introduced any measure to balance the cost of this extended, elongated war.
If Obama were to follow James Madison’s philosophy about the economy of war, he would send Congress legislation to increase taxes for all Americans and American businesses by the amount necessary to provide all the money necessary to pay for the war in Afghanistan from now on, for as long as it lasts. Instead, Obama is passing the cost of war on to the next generation.
What worthy projects will our children need to sacrifice on account of our unwillingness to pay for our own generation’s follies?
People will pay with it with the flat tax of inflation.
