In the middle of last month, I reported with dismay that only 37% of members of the House Populist Caucus had cosponsored H.R. 4300, a bill to cap credit card interest rates at 16%. Since then, the share of Populist Caucus members supporting H.R. 4300 has climbed to 63%.
There are still 11 members of the Populist Caucus who have not lent their support to Tierney’s credit card reform bill. They are (with indications of their general progressive score card rating for the 111th Congress):
Rep. Dan Lipinski. Progressive Action Score: 29%
Rep. Leonard Boswell. Progressive Action Score: 32%
Rep. Bruce Braley. Progressive Action Score: 39%
Rep. John Yarmuth. Progressive Action Score: 43%
Rep. Michael Michaud. Progressive Action Score: 43%
Rep. Ben Lujan. Progressive Action Score: 43%
Rep. David Loebsack. Progressive Action Score: 43%
Rep. Jackie Speier. Progressive Action Score: 46%
Rep. Brad Sherman. Progressive Action Score: 46%
Rep. Linda Sanchez. Progressive Action Score: 57%
Rep. Hank Johnson. Progressive Action Score: 57%
Anyone who publicly calls himself or herself a “populist” ought to know better. Is your representative listed here? Click on his or her name to find his phone number, then make a call.
If you’re interested in the Populist Caucus more broadly, check out the report “The Congressional Populist Caucus, Year One: Leaders, Followers and Coalitions in 2009″ that we’ve made available on our sister website, That’s My Congress.
I watched a documentary last week called Maxed Out. It was good.
