Bob Barr For President Again in 2012?

As the congressional campaigns of 2010 start heating up, the country is already getting ready for the 2012 presidential campaign. Prominent Republican and Democratic politicians have been striking test poses at various events for months now, but members of other political parties are starting to get organized as well.

In 2008, former Republican and former member of Congress Bob Barr was the official presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party, though many Libertarians would have preferred it if Ron Paul had rejoined their party. Could he attempt to become the Libertarian nominee again in 2012?

It seems that Barr is keeping his options open, though he isn’t taking vigorous action to promote himself, other than occasionally writing a column or giving a speech. Barr’s campaign committee is still active, and has taken three campaign contributions since the 2008 election, including one contribution from Barr himself.

As for potential constituencies, Barr should be able to count on some support from victims of gang stalking, for what that’s worth. One self-identified gang stalking victim, Bonnie Calcagno, says that she’s been gang stalked by government agents for at least three years. Tactics of the gang stalkers include purposeful disruptions of her sleep, barking dogs, cars leaving their parking spots when she walks out the door, beeping of car horns during her walks, and shunning by neighbors. In spite of the stalking, Calcagno is speaking out in favor of a Bob Barr 2012 presidential campaign: “Bob, we need you to run for President in 2012 and to start campaigning now.”

There’s also an unofficial Bob Barr 2012 fan site, though it hasn’t been updated for over a year. Barr hasn’t been swept up in the Tea Party surge of the last year, but he keeps on plugging away. Barr will be giving a speech tomorrow morning at 9:00 at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies in Washington D.C.
