That’s what Join the Impact says. I sprang into research with my snark spines extended, sure that I’d find an office regarding health issues for gay, lesbian, and transgender people at the Centers for Disease Control or National Institutes of Health or Department of Health and Human Services. I was surprised to find there actually is none. People have been pointing out for years that from a public health perspective it’s smart to study and reach out to LGBT communities in a different way. But while there are private non profit groups engaged in the issue of LGBT public health, I’ll be darned if there isn’t a single federal office, one room somewhere in Atlanta or Maryland or Washington with people dedicated to working on this front. There’s a precedent with HHS’s Office of Minority Health, but that precedent hasn’t been applied to LGBT health.
I’m not sure what to think of this. What do you think?
