Back in December, Irregular Times writer Jim posed an important question: What do we call people who refuse to grasp climate change? Deniers has been a popular term, but it’s not a fair term, as there’s nothing wrong with denying that what someone else says is true, so long as the available evidence supports that denial.
Frequent reader Tom came close to the mark when he suggested the term “Flat Earthers”, but of course, that term describes people who still assert that the Earth is flat, in spite of the huge amount of evidence that the Earth is in fact a sphere.
Recently, I’ve been thinking about climate change a great deal. The Gulf of Mexico oil spill is a stark reminder of the way that we’ve become dependent on dirty fossil fuels to power our lives. A recent report by the State Department acknowledges that emissions are still headed in the wrong direcxtion, and NASA has found that the last 12 months have been the warmest 12-month period ever recorded. The National Academy of Sciences has reviewed available climate science more thoroughly than any other group in U.S. history, and discovered that ClimateGate wasn’t a gate at all – the science still points overwhelmingly to the theory that current global warming is mostly due to human activities. Europe is moving forward with a strong climate plan while our Congress plays with bills to expand coal burning and offshore drilling. We’ve had 15 days straight of record low levels of Arctic ice.
What’s more, news came out today of new metaresearch that finds that the Arctic ice right now is at its smallest point in all the length of time yet analyzed through examination of ice cores. That’s thousands of years, at the very least, of accumulated Arctic ice that has melted in the last generation or so.
That last piece of information got me thinking about Tom’s “Flat Earthers” term again, and brought me to what I think is an apt level for those people who, in spite of the mountains of evidence for human-caused global warming and general climate change, still cling to the idea that the Earth is not warming. I’ll call them Cold Earthers.
Cold Earther: A person who chooses to ignore the evidence of human-caused global warming.

I don’t know of a single reasonable person that doesn’t believe in climate change. The climate in this world has and will continue to change for the rest of eternity. That being said I also know that the human caused climate change group continues to suffer serious setback to their arguments. Fraud, outright lies and erroneous sampling methods are well documented.
I suppose that if the self proclaimed mouth of human based global warming, Al Gore weren’t such a hypocrite you would have an easier time selling the lies. But when Mr. Internet (actually created under Ike) buys an 8 million dollar home on beach front property in Montecito, after telling people the ocean will soon cover most of the coast, well it is just a hard pill to swallow.
For progressive maybe not so much…but for people that actually question authority, well this pill looks a lot like a DICK… And I for one don’t put dicks in my mouth.
Dear Jon,
I am writing this note to tell you that I’ve found someone else. Someone not afraid to look at the evidence for themselves. You see, the jury is still out on AGW. I’ve grown so tired of your argument, regurgitated from the minds of others. Your argument is the same as those who deny T. Jefferson was a proponent of freedom because he owned slaves. I’m no fan of the former VP and I don’t defend his posturing and pretending.
This isn’t about him. It’s about you and your brotherhood who pretend to be anti-AGW conservative visionaries when you are actually frustrated and sexually starved freaks who make poor sexual analogies to compensate for your inadequacies. Maybe you don’t put physical dicks in your mouth, put you sure put a ideological polish on the knob of the “deniers without evidence” club. How does it taste?
I bet it really stings to get taken down by lady with a name like mine.
