Delaware And The Oil Spill

State officials in Delaware say they’re preparing for pollution from the Gulf oil spill that may reach their shores some time this summer. Those officials will want to keep one eye looking upstream, though.

In addition to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the oil spill this weekend in Utah, there was an oil spill this weekend on the Delaware River, up in Pennsylvania – a slick of diesel that stretched out for a half mile.

The Pennsylvania Department says that there’s no need to worry, that the diesel will just dissipate into the water – much as BP said there was nothing to worry about when the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig exploded and sank to the bottom of the Gulf.

One Response to Delaware And The Oil Spill

  1. Tom says:

Yeah, like everyone else in the Marcellus Shale region (which includes New York), PA idiots are falling all over themselves selling their “mineral” rights to oil and gas companies, who promptly make the groundwater undrinkable through “fracking” (breaking the rock with high pressure infused toxic chemicals, sand and mud) the rock layers to release natural gas. We’re so stupid here that “our” genius legislature passed an amendment NOT to tax these companies (like almost every other state) in order to “give them a good start.”

As i pointed out in another thread somewhere, there’s a great documentary going around called Gasland, which chronicles the hazards these companies bring with their “gifts” of money for natural resource rights all over the country. It’s made by a guy in PA, whose dad was considering the offer. Check it out:
