Last night, the city of New Orleans added itself to the growing list of communities around the world that will engage in protest on July 10, 2010 against the practices and policies that led to the massive and ongoing BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. As Lauren Goldfinch puts it, “The Worldwide BP Protest Day is coming to New Orleans where we will unite in voice with dozens of major cities around the globe. The purpose of this event is to peacefully demand better legislation that seizes power from the oil companies and corporations who have been ravaging our homeland for decades. We will unite to demand justice and accountability for the destruction of our environment.”
If you’re in New Orleans on July 10, meet up on the steps next to CafĂ© du Monde on 748 Decatur Street at 6 pm.
If you’re not in New Orleans, check here and here for an updated list of the other cities holding protests on July 10.
Don’t forget to have a cup of their wonderful coffee (with chicory) and a warm beignet.
