The Bicycle Cutie

The best way to protest the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is to use less oil. After all, we wouldn’t have offshore drilling along our coasts if we didn’t burn through petroleum so fast. It’s basic economics: If we cut our consumption of petroleum products, we can make offshore drilling not worth the effort.

Yesterday, I suggested bicycle activism. For those trips that are within just a few miles, you can use your own muscles to move forward, instead of relying on the energy stored in oil pumped out from under the sea.

Of course, in the United States, a car is a good deal more than just a means of transportation. It’s also regarded as a kind of fashion statement. So, perhaps some people might be thinking about the impression they give, pedalling around a Schwinn.

If you’re worried about keeping up appearances, consider the style of the Pashley Cycles. Made in the UK, these bicycles stand out for their looks as much as for their moves.

Take a gander at the model you see here, named the Princess Sovereign. With its retro lines and wicker basket, this machine is undeniably cute, presenting the same sort of sweet je ne sais quois of a French country baguette, but without the calories. In fact, this bicycle comes with negative calories… if you just get on and push those pedals.

Wondering how to coordinate the machine with your wardrobe? The bike comes in two colors: Buckingham Black or Regency Green.
