By all appearances, the October 2 march on Washington DC planned by the group “One Nation” is focused around issues of economic opportunity for various groups:
DC1707 is marching with The One Nation Movement, a coalition of the nation’s leading labor, civil rights, youth, faith and social justice organizations to unite America through hope not hate and to fight for stable jobs, affordable housing, quality education for all, and for fair and humane laws for our immigrant neighbors.
American Federation of Teachers:
Connecting with community means reminding people that we need their support, and that they need our support.
And it means reminding ourselves that—especially in tough economic times—we have a responsibility to work with communities to strengthen the institutions in which we work, and upon which they depend.
We are affected by and care about the same issues that everyday people care about. That’s why this October we will march on Washington. The AFT will be a full partner in the One Nation March on Washington that is being organized by a broad range of civil rights, labor, faith, youth, immigrant rights and other progressive organizations. This march will highlight the need for an America that focuses on good jobs, good public education, taking good care of our environment, and immigration reform.

Jobs, Education, Housing, Immigration Rights, Cut the Military Budget.
This last organization links to the march’s website, One Nation Working Together, a website so new that it hasn’t yet been indexed by Google, Bing, Yahoo or Ixquick. The group’s own call to action:
ONE NATION IS ABOUT REORDERING OUR NATION’S PRIORITIES TO INVEST IN OUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE — OUR PEOPLE.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve the American Dream — a secure job, a safe home, and a quality education — but banksters and corporate lobbyists have made off with trillions of public dollars while small businesses can’t get loans and cities are laying off teachers, police, and firefighters.
In this time of economic crisis, it is easy for fear-mongerers to pit groups against each other and to find convenient scapegoats for the problems that plague us.
ONE NATION seeks to transcend our superficial differences and bring us together in a common quest for equal opportunity and justice for all….
March with us in Washington, DC on 10-2-10 to create millions of good jobs, repair our immigration system, and reform Wall Street! Your voice is essential to demanding the change we voted for.
One Nation is constructing its social movement base for this march through bloc recruitment. Before the general American population is being made aware of this One Nation march on Washington, One Nation has gotten a number of membership-rich groups (the NAACP, Nation Center for La Raza, United States Student Association and various labor unions) to usher their members to the march. Rather than build an entirely new communication and coordination infrastructure, One Nation will use the infrastructure these groups already have in place. That infrastructure is already engaged: AFSCME’s DC1707 is distributing sign-up sheets for buses to the march to depart from locations in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Harlem, Manhattan and Queens.
How soon before these groups and other like-minded citizens go to D.C. to physically take over Congress and oust the President (ala Georgia-style political action)?
I have just found out about this activity. I would like the group to reach out to Peace activists and other progressive people to involve them in this great initiative. I only heard about it from some friends who are active in the trade union movement. As a community (housing) activist and peace activist, I didn’t get any e-mail about it at all!
Feeling left out!
Jeanie, if you feel left out as we do, contact the organizers and tell them how you feel. Or, better yet, organize among your own group(s) to join the rally. Instead of sitting around feeling rejected, we are setting up a Facebook page today to inform the LGBT community about the march and hopefully get the attention of the organizers so that they will begin to add our community to the list of those progressive groups joining the movement. Be proactive!
I need to know if there will be a bus from Raleigh North Carolina. I want to go.
Check out the One Nation March on Washington website: they have a “contact” section.
… but also as a former resident of next-door Durham I know you could take the train or the Greyhound bus up to Washington yourself from there.
There will be a bus leaving from Durham. The Durham Branch of the NAACP will be sponsoring a bus. We don’t know the cost yet but you are welcome to go. We can pick you up on I-85 or you can come to Durham. We will leave from the downtown area. If there are enough people from Raleigh interested in going, we will come to Raleigh for a pick-up. Our office number is 919-682-4930. Call and leave your contact info with our receptionist. A deposit will be required to secure your seat and the balance will be due 2 weeks prior to departure.
There is also a ride share page on the ONWT website. http://www.ridebuzz.org/events-group/one-nation-working-together-march-washington-onenationworkingtogetherorg-7705.html
I agree with Jeanie. Other progressive groups need to be included – including those fighting for gay rights
All groups will be represented.
All races, creeds, income levels, genders to include LGBT,
One Nation Working Together is what it says it is. All invited.
We need to UNITE, find and elect true candidates to represent us and not the corporations/banks.

Janie, you’ll want to get in touch with Jennifer LittleJohn at ONWTSouth@gmail.com for answers to your questions.
my e-mail address is gree6253@bellsouth.net, pls respond.
are u people aware that the communist party of america supports this charade, just look at the one nation website. What are folks thinking when they align themselves with the communist party
Are you aware that you’re arguing by innuendo rather than by substance?
So what if the Communist Party of the USA endorses this march? It does. So what? It’s a free country. Or would you rather it weren’t a free country?
