Obama Fighting Against Climate Action In Courts

Environmentalists who voted for Barack Obama are shaking their heads in regret as they find out about a White House effort to block climate action through the courts.

The Obama Administration abandoned efforts to push climate legislation through Congress a long while ago, and promised EPA regulation of greenhouse gases has failed to materialize. So, with the legislative and executive branches of government failing to take action to deal with the increasing crisis of global warming, the nation is left with the judicial branch as a means for action.

This week, President Obama moved to block judicial action on climate change. The Obama Administration is acting in opposition to a lawsuit by state governments against big polluting energy companies that would require those companies to reduce emissions of gases that are increasing the planet’s temperature. Obama’s lawyers are arguing that state governments shouldn’t be allowed to file suit to force climate action, because damages from climate change are complicated, and because the Obama Administration will get around to dealing with the problem… eventually.

Will this be Obama’s re-election campaign slogan in 2012: Change we’ll get around to, sooner or later?

Get ready for everything to go completely awry after Obama loses to some right-wing corporate shit-head because he’s throwing his “base” (everyone who hated the Rethuglican/neocon agenda) under the bus. Watch them cut social security, welfare, unemployment, and every other kind of social service to funnel the remaining cash to their corporate buddies in big energy, big agribusiness, big banks and the ever-increasing military/homeland (prison nation) security people. Oh, it’ll be great fun then:
scarce jobs, an environment getting really hard to live in, continuing wars and the new addition – civil unrest all over the country.

Our first clue that he was “one of them” was when he refused to prosecute ANYONE for ANYTHING relating to the unconstitutional over-reach of presidential power, the plundering of the economy via bailouts of the insolvent “to big to fail” banks, the illegal, immoral, and unethical march to war(s) (which he’s EXPANDED), the 911 cover-up, Gitmo and Abu Graib abuse, spying on the citizenry (and retroactive immunity for the big telecoms who helped) etc. (the list is long).

I quite agree, Tom. We’re in for a very difficult few years. Obama had a chance to make some important changes, but he threw it all away.

The Republicans will retake the White House in 2012, and Congress. And then, they’ll preach that the Democrats ruined everything, when in fact, all the Democrats did was to go along with the Republican agenda in the first place. The Democrats will promise change again, and a new generation of suckers will believe them.

It’ll be too late by 2012 Edward (in fact, i’m not alone in thinking it’s already too late). We can see the environment is ramping up year by year adjusting to all the crap we’re polluting the ocean, air and ground with in our reckless way of living off the planet (as opposed to living in harmony with it). Our “leaders” are bought and paid for shills of the corporatocracy (which uses the planet as a FREE resource and dumping ground).
