In the 2010 congressional elections, Oklahoma has one Senate seat and five U.S. House seats up for grabs. Incumbent Republican Senator Tom Coburn has campaigned statewide to fend off Democratic challenger Jim Rogers. Results are trickling in, even almost two hours after the polls have closed, but Coburn has a very large lead of 45 percent so far, with 87 percent of precincts reporting. It’s probably safe to say he’ll be re-elected.
1st congressional district Republican incumbent John Sullivan has run an uninteresting campaign against… absolutely no one. 1st district Democrats couldn’t summon the wherewithal this year to challenge Sullivan at all.
In the 2nd district, right wing Blue Dog Democrat incumbent Dan Boren is facing off against Republican challenger Charles Thompson. With 94 percent of precincts reporting, Boren is ahead by 12 points, 56 to 44.
3rd district incumbent Frank Lucas is running against barely-financed Democrat Frankie Robbins. Lucas has won re-election – 78 to 22 percent.
There is no contest in Oklahoma’s 4th district. Incumbent Republican Tom Cole has not been challenged there at all.
Mary Fallin is not running for re-election in the 5th district seat in the House of Representatives. Democrat Billy Coyle and Republican James Lankford competed for the position. Lankford easily won, 62 to 35 percent.
Yes, 1st District Democrats surrendered without a fight even though Sullivan’s “good Christian conservative” cred was damaged when he checked into Betty ford clinic a while back. As if we here in OK don’t have enough shame heaped on up by playing host to Inhofe and Coburn, two of the most disruptive and looniest nut-cases in office (Michele Bachmann notwithstanding).
My biggest personal disappointment last night was in the State race for HD-84, when Sally “Church Chat Lady” Kern managed to collect enough of the batsh*t crazy vote to keep her spouting bigotry from the legislature.
