Democrats in Congress and the White House say that they’re fighting for people like you, but the people they’re actually fighting for probably don’t live much like you do.
In one piece of news today, President Barack Obama says that he wants to freeze the pay that federal workers receive in compensation for their labor. This plan would save about 5 billion dollars per year. And where are those savings going to go? Not to reduce the deficit. Oh no, the small amount of money saved will go to pay for…
… the second piece of economic news today. Democrats in Congress are asking President Obama to change the current “compromise” tax cut package to compromise it even more. They’re asking Obama to work with them to extend tax cuts for people who earn between $275,000 and $9,999.999.00. That’s where the money from the federal pay freeze will go: To give special breaks to people who are earning pennies less than a million dollars a year. These tax cuts would cost something like six times the amount saved by the federal worker pay freeze.
Remember when Republicans used to freak out, worrying that Obama would pursue a redistribution of wealth? I guess they never dreamed that Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress would do what they’re doing now: Redistributing wealth to take money from working families and give it to the stinking rich.
Why can’t the Democrats ask people making half a million dollars a year to make the same sacrifice for our country that federal workers are being asked to make?
