Obama’s Bigger Issues

In his speech today, defending his decision to cave in to Republicans and work to help them pass the tax cuts for the rich that they have been asking for all along, President Obama said, “There are bigger issues at stake for our nation than politics.”

Really, Mr. Obama? Bigger issues? What bigger issues were you thinking of? Bigger issues like cutting workers’ pay in order to fund huge tax giveaways for the filthy rich?

There are no bigger issues in the United States than politics. Politics is the expression of what’s important to the American people. Politics is not a barrier to solving problems. Politics is the way we solve problems in a democratic nation.

When the most powerful politician in the world tells us that politics isn’t very important in the big scheme of things, we’d do well not to accept his comments at face value.
