Political and International Donations: Ballot Access News and the Village Enterprise Fund

January 19th, 2011 | Posted by Jim Cook in Alternative Parties | Economy | Moral Values | Outside the USA | Politics | Shirts

Every time someone buys one of our sweatshop-free liberal t-shirts through Skreened, we set aside two dollars from the profits: one dollar for donation to a domestic political cause and another dollar for donation to an overseas charitable effort.

Our latest domestic political donation goes to Ballot Access News, an online and on-paper newsletter by Richard Winger that digs up and shares a whole lot of information about efforts by small groups to get on the ballot, and efforts by the big players to keep them off the ballot. If knowledge is power, Ballot Access News distributes power. We’ve sent another donation to the Village Enterprise Fund, an organization that distributes micro-grants (not usurious micro-loans) to people in East Africa who are starting up their own small businesses. At the same time it hands out micro-grants, VEF operates free ongoing small business education courses to help budding entrepreneurs succeed in their work.
