Books Not Bombs Bumper Sticker

At the Ithaca protest against the Republican Party’s push to selectively eliminate government programs that help working Americans, my eye was caught by one sign in particular, which managed to combine issues of peace and the economy rather nicely. The Republican fiscal agenda in Congress is bombs instead of books, so why not switch that around? That’s what his sign did, as you can see below:

I was inspired by this sign to create a bumper sticker with the same slogan, plus a little ditty added on for extra impact: Books Not Bombs – America Needs To Educate, Not Obliterate.

i like it! But like all blanket statements, clarification becomes “iffy” (eg. WHICH books?)

I don’t feel the need for clarification on this one. Books as a category are preferable to bombs as a category, but even bad books are preferable to the best bombs, given that intelligent readers can always make use of poor, and even misleading sources. We have no such defense against bombs.
