Conservatives Chuckle at White Roof Idea that um, Would Work

Political conservatives like to style themselves as hard-nosed, just-the-facts folks who pay attention to the bottom line and make saving money their #1 priority. And then they publish stuff like this:

206. Refer to Obama’s energy czar Dr. Steven Chu as “the Tin Foil Hat guy” or the “Santorini guy” after his brilliant scheme—proposed at a 2008 London climate change conference—to paint all our rooftops and sidewalks white, in a kind of Greek Island style. Apparently the energy saved would be the equivalent of taking all cars off the road for eleven years. Suggest that maybe next he’ll want to be examining the potential of mining the moon for green cheese or extracting sunbeams from cucumbers.

The “206″ refers to conservative gadfly James Delingpole’s 206th Way to Drive a Liberal Crazy. By the end of the year there will be 365 of them, distributed daily by the conservative media powerhouse Human Events and its right-wing parent company, Regnery Publications.

What a loony idea, huh? Like mining the moon for green cheese! Or like extracting sunbeams from cucumbers! Yeah. Except for the bit where it’s practical, money-saving, based on an established scientific principle, tested experimentally and published in prestigious peer-reviewed scientific journals. Yes, except for all that, it’s just like extracting sunbeams from cucumbers.

Who cares if its a brilliant idea because the government has no business regulating roof colors.

If ppl want a white roof though that’s fine.
