On Sunday August 28, Hurricane Irene slammed into the state of Vermont, flooding homes, knocking out power and bridges and killing a few people.

On Tuesday August 30, Ohio Republican Party Chairman Kevin DeWine sent out a blast e-mail which began by criticizing for Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown for the sin of knowing Howard Dean and for “standing with fellow liberal Howard Dean tonight.” DeWine noted that Howard Dean hails from the state of Vermont. And, DeWine continued, we all know about Sherrod Brown’s “pals,” those people from Vermont. We all know what people from Vermont are:
Ohio is not Vermont. But you wouldn’t know that by looking at Sherrod Brown’s pals. Sherrod Brown was recently rated as one of the most liberal members of the U.S. Senate. In fact, Brown received the same liberal rating — two years in a row — as the self-described socialist Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders.
Notice a pattern?
Liberal Howard Dean and socialist Bernie Sanders may share some pretty extreme viewpoints with Sherrod Brown, but they do not share our Ohio values.
Apparently, Vermonters are the Republicans new Darkies. Kevin DeWine’s timing for this latest Two Minutes Hate might be a bit off.

I understand why Mr. DeWine feels the need to do this. Senator Brown and Mr. DeWine are on opposite sides, and thus they are enemies. Bringing up Senator Sanders socialist-leanings and linking it to Senator Brown will damage him a bit as most American’s do not like socialism. But, there is this wonderful thing called timing. Belittling Vermonters when they are dealing with the worst floods they’ve had in decades is in poor taste.
Also, where did Mr. DeWine liberal ratings come from? He says, “Sherrod Brown was recently rated as one of the most liberal members of the U.S. Senate. In fact, Brown received the same liberal rating — two years in a row…” Anyone know where he got that?
